Book Review: Goldie Hatches a Brood {Enter to WIN!}

written and illustrated by Carnation resident Jill Iversen

September 3, 2015

I have an affinity for local authors, and love that we have such a talented community of writers and illustrators sharing their passion with local families.  I’ve been reading Goldie Hatches a Brood, a new children’s picture book by local Carnation mom, Jill Iversen, daily to my daughter for the last couple weeks now.  Anyone who knows me knows that if I don’t like a book, it discreetly gets moved to the bookshelf and out of our regular nap and bedtime book rotation.  Well, Goldie is holding stong on the night stand and I think your family will enjoy reading it, too!

Goldie is a loving, patient chicken, desperately wanting to nurture chicks of her own – so much so, that she will nest with puppies, kittens and even her fellow hen’s eggs!  The young daughter recognizes that Goldie needs her own brood, and devises a plan to make Goldie the mother hen she yearns to be.

Goldie Hatches a Brood is written and beautifully illustrated by Jill herself and contains wonderful themes that will appeal to all families, but especially families that have chosen adoption.  It is a sweet reminder that the love between families comes from many paths, but all can lead to a happy and fulfilling future.

You can find out more about Jill Iversen and her artwork, as well as purchase Goldie Hatches a Brood at http://jilliversen.com/goldie_hatches_a_brood.  Also watch for upcoming readings at the library!
