On a recent hot summer afternoon, my family and I decided to pack up and head out for one of our favorite hikes, Cherry Creek Falls. Just outside of Duvall, this gem of a hike is perfect for the entire family. I recommend bringing a lunch, wearing clothes and shoes that can get wet, and let the kids splash around before heading back. It is a great treat on a hot day!
The trip starts on an old logging road with a gentle incline and turns into a narrow trail with rolling hills. You will pass many forks and overgrown roads, but the key to finding the falls is to continue on the straightest path. Most of the hike is shaded and there is lovely scenery from views of the hills to small wildlife to Cherry Creek bubbling by. Just before the turnoff to the falls, you will cross a large washout called Hannan Creek. Take the path to the right and follow the sound of the falls to an overlook and firepit. The path continues to the base of the falls, where you are rewarded with a beautiful view and a pool shallow enough to let the kids splash and wade.
Trip reports vary for this hike, but it is approximately 5-6 miles roundtrip in length and total elevation gain is 300-450 feet.
Driving Directions:
From the junction of SR 203 and Woodinville-Duvall Road in downtown Duvall, head north on SR 203 for about 500 feet, then turn right on NE Cherry Valley Road. Follow this road for 4.3 miles to Mountain View Road, turn left and park immediately at the junction (Cherry Valley Road becomes Kelly Road here).
