Park Review: Lake Tye is Fun for All

July 23, 2015

Lake Tye Park is a mainstay and weekly visit for many Monroe families, but if you haven’t made the trip (or haven’t gone in awhile), I’ve got 5 reasons to go this summer:

Play Time:

With ample benches surrounding the large playground, parents will have a chance to chat and keep an eye out while children swing, ride the merry-go-round and climb and slide down the fun 2-story play structure.  There is also a smaller play structure for tots.  The equipment and surface were clean and well-maintained, and although the play area was very busy during our last visit, there was still plenty of room for everyone.

Bounce, Pass, Pitch:

Balls? Bring them all!  Lake Tye park has designated courts for tennis (though there were no nets at the time of our visit), basketball and baseball, plus fields large enough to throw around a football or pass the soccer ball.  There was even a 4-square court next to the play area!

Explore:

The trails and beach at Lake Tye Park are perfect for a nature walk, tossing rocks into the water, and feeding the many resident ducks and geese.

Enjoy the Water:

Lake Tye is a swimmable lake and has a nice gravely beach easy on the feet (no lifeguard is on duty, so plan accordingly), but if you’re not interested in getting wet, you can also fish or rent a paddleboard or kayak from the concession stand.  {Editor’s note: the concession stand is supposed to be open 11am – 5pm Tuesday through Sunday, but on our mid-day visit on a Wednesday, the stand was not open}.  The concession stand also offers free life jackets to borrow if needed.  In the works is Propullsion Cablepark, a watersports park where you can wakeboard and waterski via a motorized cable system.  The park was originally slated to open in 2015, but has been delayed due to funding.

This is How We Roll:

Bring the bike, trike, scooter, skates, stroller, rollerblades or skateboard!  Lake Tye boasts a large and popular skate park, plus the trail around the lake is paved and suitable for most modes of transit.   A double loop around the lake gives you the perfect 5K.

Lake Tye also has a large permanent bathroom facility, and several covered picnic areas.  Have fun on your next trip to the park!
