50 Fun Fall Activities

In Monroe, Sultan, Duvall, Carnation, and a few places beyond

Summer is over, the kids are back to school and all the summer activities have finished. BUT, we still need things to do!  I have found so many fun fall activities in the area (and a little beyond) to share with you.  I present you with... 50 fun fall activities!

Story time at the local libraries - Monroe Library, Sultan Library, Duvall Library, Carnation Library, and Woodinville Library all have great story time programs for ages 0-5 years old. Check out our event calendar for a schedule of all the library story times.

Fall Crafting at Ben Franklin Craft Store – Ben Franklin has craft make and take days every month that feature themed crafts for the season. Check out their website for more information.

Host a football party – It’s football season! Invite some friends over to watch the game and have some fun! Get some party ideas from the Cherry Valley Macaroni Kid Pinterest Page.

Go Apple Picking – The Farm at Swans Trail in Snohomish has a U-Pick apple orchard. Check out their website for updates on when the apples are ready and the season is open.

Bake an Apple Pie – Find your favorite recipe, get into the kitchen with your kids, and have fun.

Get your family photos taken –Stop putting it off.  Fall has some the best backgrounds and landscapes for outdoor family photos!

Visit a local playground (or two, or three) – Fall has some perfect weather for playing outside and exploring. Not too hot, not too cold and dry for the most part. Here are some great playground suggestions in the surrounding areas.

Visit Remlinger FarmsRemlinger Farms has a lot going on in the fall; Toddler Weekdays, Family Fun Park on the weekends, and beginning September 23rd the Fall Harvest Pumpkin Festival.

Story Time at Main Street Books – First Saturday of every month. Take some old books in with you to trade in while you are there!  Check their website for more information.

Find Your Inner Artist at Northwest Art Center – The newest addition to Northwest Art Center, paint your own pottery and the splatter room, is a big hit for kids and adults! They have drop in times for kids and adults as well as classes for preschoolers.

Pizza and Movie Night – Cool nights make staying in with the family for pizza and a movie the perfect Friday night plans! Pick up some pizza from a local pizza place! Sahara Pizza Monroe, Sahara Pizza Sultan, Red Pepper Pizzeria and Pasta in Duvall, and Blake’s Pizza in Carnation are some great options.

Decorate your home for fall – What a better way to get in the mood than to do a few fall DIY decorations around the house. Check you the Cherry Valley Macaroni Pinterest page for some inspiration.

Take a trip – Fall is one of the best times to take a trip! The kids are back in school which means crowds are low and prices are low; win, win! Check out the Macaroni Kid Family Travel edition for some travel ideas and helpful tips.

Ride a train – The Great Northern and Cascade Railway train located in Skykomish. GNCR is a 7 1/2" gauge Live Steam Railroad & Museum. Museum, Gift Shop and Information Center Open Thursday through Monday10am to 4pm. Free train rides for the whole family every weekend and summer holiday from May through October.

Hang with the kids at the arcade – For the rainy days that do happen in the fall, Let’s Play Café is the perfect place to take the kids. Show them the ways of the arcade games and pinball machines. They also have board games for you to play and enjoy while you are there.

Attend your local high school football game - Support your local high school and have some fun while doing it!

Discover Lord Hill Park- Located off Old Monroe-Snohomish Road one can ride horseback, hike, or mountain bike into the vast evergreen forest of this 1,463-acre upland nature preserve. A day's exploration of this unique wilderness park will include discovering many species of plant and animal life. And, with a little luck, you may observe a family of beavers busily constructing a dam. The park contains over six miles of designated trails. From the higher points within the park, one can capture panoramic views of the surrounding Snohomish River valley and distant mountain ranges. View points such as Devil’s Butte Lookout or along the ridge of the Pipeline Trail are popular destinations for viewing the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges.

Free Museum Day – Held this year on September 23rd, Museum Day Live! is an annual celebration of boundless curiosity hosted by Smithsonian magazine. Participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day Live! ticket. The Museum Day Live! Ticket provides free admission for two people. There are many participating museums in the Seattle area, you must reserve your ticket before September 23rd.

Go see a movie – Galaxy 12 Movie Theater in Monroe has movies all day on Tuesday for their reward members for $6.50 and KidToon Saturdays where they play a cartoon Saturday morning at 10:00 for $2.00 per person. Contact the theater for movie times and to verify information.

Go visit a Pumpkin Patch – We have many great Pumpkin Patches in our area! About the end of September is when they begin to open for the season and the Fall fun really begins. Don’t forget to take a look at our Fall Fun Guide to help guide to all the best patches in the area.

Bake something with pumpkin spice – Pumpkin spice bread, pumpkin spice cookies, pumpkin spiced pancakes, pumpkin spiced scones, pumpkin spiced cupcakes. The possibilities are endless now a days and it makes your house smell wonderful!

Try some new flavors – Ice cream and frozen yogurt isn’t just for summer. It is good all year long! Head to your local ice cream or frozen yogurt shop and try a new flavor you haven’t tried yet. Yoforit Frozen Yogurt Shop in Monroe always has new flavors.

Carnation Farms – The Harvest Festival at Carnation Farms starts October 14th. Along with family-friendly activities like hay rides and finding the perfect pumpkin in our organic pumpkin patch, guests will enjoy a sample of our farm-based programs, cuddle close at the petting zoo, and create one-of-a-kind crafts.

Oxbow Oxtober Pumpkin Festival - Fall is Oxbow’s most bountiful and beautiful season. Celebrate with us at our month-long Oxtober Pumpkin Festival featuring live music, food trucks, hay rides, fall activities, and farm fun for all ages!

Road trip to see the changing leaves – Just driving down 203 will give you an incredible view of fall’s beautiful colors, but why not be a bit more adventurous? Head up Highway 2 to Stevens Pass, over the mountains, up over I-90, or head north up I-5. So many possibilities.

Leavenworth Oktoberfest - Hop over to Leavenworth and enjoy their Oktoberfest events!

Head to a Haunted House – Do you like a good fright? Then we have a few good haunted house around us that are waiting for you! Head over to Stalker Farms or Thomas Family Farms in Snohomish.

Jump in some leaves – Rake up a big pile of leaves and just jump right in!

Participate in the Sky Valley Classic – 5K, 10K, and 1 mile run/walk to benefit the Monroe/Sky Valley Family YMCA . Costume contest, wheelchair and stroller friendly. Click here for more information.

Fall crafts with fall leaves – Go out leaf hunting and use those leaves to make some fun crafts. Fall leaf candle jar and a Fall tree sun catcher.

Play with Legos – Do you have a child that just loves their Legos? Head over to Bricks and Minifigs in Monroe where they can rummage through the bulk bins and make their own minifig.

Visit the Zoo – I love visiting the zoo in the fall. The days are cooler so the animals are more active, it is easier to walk around with the cooler weather, and there are less people visiting. The Woodland Park Zoo also reduces their admission fees in the fall and winter.

Get lost in a corn maze – Be sure when you visit those pumpkin patches to go through the corn maze also. Let your child lead you through and there is a great chance you will get lost, at least for a short time.

Go camping – Camping isn’t just for summer. Check out this article about camping in the fall.

Have a campfire – In your backyard, at your campsite, at your friend’s house. Campfires are always a great time! Roast marshmallows, make some S’mores, roast hot dogs for dinner.

Head to the Reptile Zoo – Need a place to head indoors for the day? Head over to The Reptile Zoo and check out some exotic animals. Every weekend they have a carnivore feeding time and petting zoo hours.

Enjoy some doughnuts – Hot, fresh doughnuts are the best things on cold fall mornings. Find your favorite local doughnut shop and buy a dozen for you and your family.

Jump at Jump Rattle & Roll – Get some of that never ending kid energy out by taking your kids to open jump at Jump Rattle & Roll. They will have a blast and you have the option of jumping with them or taking some time to relax.

Collect food – Collect food for the local food bank. It is that time of year when the food bank needs to start feeding families for Thanksgiving and Christmas and they need help providing the food. Clean out your pantry, ask your family, friends, neighbors, classmates, and see how much you can collect.

Create a Thankful board – During the Thanksgiving season I love to take the opportunity to teach being grateful and thankful to my kids. We have done it many ways over the years. This is a great and easy way; Make A Family Thankful Board.

Get Some Adult Time - Grab your favorite person(s) and check out one of the many craft nights, wine nights, and more happening in your area.  Our Time Out For Parents has it all listed for you in one easy place!
