Follow Your Heart to Disney On Ice - My Review

Now Showing at Xfinity Arena in Everett

There aren't many things that my daughter will plan months in advance and count the days down until. For the last five years she has gone to this event with her little Disney bestie. Months in advance, they will plan out their outfits; they must coordinate with the show and each other! They will plan where we will eat beforehand; always Red Robin. And, they will discuss what souvenirs they want to buy that year. This year was no different.

We all attended the opening night of Disney On Ice presents Follow Your Heart at Xfinity Arena and fun was had by all. I wonder when my daughter will begin get tired of the shows and she never does! Every year she is just as in awe as the she was the first year we attended. The show is centered around Riley and her emotions. So it is only fitting that they begin the show. During the first half of the show we also get to see performances from Beauty and the Beast, Fantasia, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Then all the princesses came out! This was by far the kids, and my, favorite part. Each princess did their own unique dance that depicted their own unique story. A few even went flying high! I won’t tell you who; I don’t want to ruin the surprise! Then they all came back together and did a group dance together with more high flying. That ended the first half of the show.

The second half of the show started with some Disney On Ice newcomers, the characters from Finding Dory. This time we got to follow the whole story from start to finish. From Dory losing her parents, remembering she had a family, going on the journey to find them, and ultimately finding her parents again. After, we had a short appearance from a few of the Toy Story gang. They did something I have never seen done at Disney On Ice, audience participation. They taught the audience a fun dance. I ended up succeeding in thoroughly embarrassing all the children I was with by also participating; I call that a win! Turns out my daughter and her friends are in fact getting older than I thought they were. They were relieved when Elsa, Anna, and Olaf came out and excited at the same time. I thought my daughter was past the “Frozen” stage. In fact, I think she may have told me that once. But, she was on the edge of her seat. The premise of this story was how Anna met Olaf. They started at the beginning when Elsa made him and went all the way to the end of the story when Elsa and Anna learn about true love. This was the grand finale, and as always a fantastic grand finale! Let It Go will always be the most epic song ever!

The show is 2 hours long with a 15 minute intermission in the middle. They are great about making the stories short enough to keep even the smaller kids from losing interest. And of course they bring the Fab Five (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy) in several times during the show to make it authentically Disney. What is a Disney show without Mickey Mouse? Xfinity Arena is an easy and comfortable venue for this show. There is a lot of free and cheap parking surrounding the arena, there are many entrances and exits so people flow in and out very well, and I have never seen massively long lines at the women’s bathroom (always a huge plus).
