Find Your Family Fun at Evergreen Speedway

By Melinda Larke - Cherry Valley Macaroni Kid Publisher May 31, 2018

Beginning in Spring and ending in Fall every weekend you can hear it all through out the valley; the sounds of car racing at Evergreen Speedway. To me, it is the sound of summer, the sound of excitement, and the sound of some great family fun!  Located at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds the Evergreen Speedway has been a staple of the Monroe and surrounding communities since 1954.  With a history that rich and long, they have found the perfect recipe for family fun.  There is something for everyone in the family; mini stocks, late stocks, street stocks, super stocks, late models, stingers, hornets, figure 8 racing, drag racing, motocross,  truck demo derbys, bus races, boat races, and more.

"It was so cool! When can we go back?" - Ellie, age 10

During Memorial Day Weekend my family and friends had the pleasure to attend the Sean Peters Truck Demo.  The kids, ranging in age from 7-13 years old were entertained the entire 5 hours that we were there.  They spent the time cheering on their favorite cars, laughing with each other, intently watching the races with huge smiles on their faces and getting yummy treats. (I still don't know where those Elephant Ears were coming from!)  The fireworks at the end of the evening were just the cherry on top.  We all left in great spirits, planning our next trip to Evergreen Speedway!

Ready to take your family to the races?  Here are some tips to make it a great experience -

  • Check the schedule ahead of time to match your family's interests.
  • Parking is $5.00 in the lot by Evergreen Speedway.  There is free parking right across the street from the fairgrounds.
  • Seating is not assigned, it is first come first served.  Gates open at 4:00 pm for 6:00 pm race times.
  • You can bring in your own food and drink.  There are some restrictions, see here for more information.
  • Don't forget to bring hearing protection; it can get very loud!  If you don't have any stop by Harbor Freight on the way to the races for some good, cheap options.
  • There are many treats in the food court area, you know, right by the bathrooms, so be prepared to buy a treat for your kiddos or bring your own.  I personally thought the food was priced well.
  • Dress in layers or bring blankets.  Most of the seating is in the shade which is great on a hot day, but once that sun goes down it gets chilly.  The blankets are also a good barrier between you and the wood bench that you are sitting on for 5 hours.  The bench gets pretty hard after a few hours or so.

Remember kids 10 & under are always free at Evergreen Speedway!  For more information on Evergreen Speedway, the races, and to get your tickets, check their website.  See you at the races!
