Be a Part of the Evergreen State Fair!

By Melinda Larke - Cherry Valley Macaroni Kid Publisher July 18, 2019

We look forward to the Evergreen State Fair every year!  It may signal the end of the summer, but, we end the summer with a bang.  The more years I go the more things I find to do there.Of course you have the carnival rides and games, the 4-H animals, all the food, and let’s not forget the Lumberjack Show.  Did you know there are ways that YOU can be a part of the fair festivities?

Exhibitors – Have a talent for art, photography, baking/cooking, sewing?  You can enter your masterpieces in the Open Class Category, have thousands of people enjoy your hard work, and compete for a ribbon! Your kids can even participate; there are many different categories divided into several different age ranges. There is even a parent-child sugar cookie person/critter contest!  My kids had fun with this the one year we attempted to enter.  I say attempted because someone, me, missed the deadline to enter, luckily my kids didn’t hold a grudge.   They had so much fun making the cookies though.    Take a look at all the categories and find something that appeals to you or your children.  Two things to remember though, there are deadlines for entering your creations (usually the week before the fair) and you need to follow all the rules for the entry to qualify for judging.

Contests – Throughout the two weeks of the fair there are fun contests that run for anyone that wants to enter.  That means you and your family.  Some examples are the Baby Diaper Derby, Bubble Gum Blowing contest, Frisbee Throwing, and Quarter in the Haystack.  Each contest is run at a certain date and time during the fair and require sign ups before the contest begins.  Most contests are also free to enter! Check out all the great options here!

3-on-3 Basketball – This year marks the 4th year they have been running the popular Fairfest 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament.  There are three divisions; youth (3rd-7th grade), High school ( 8th-12th grade), and Adult (Men, Women, and Co-ed.) Each team may have up to four players.  For more information and to register go here.

There are other ways that you can be a part of the fair and all you have to do is show up!  The Great American Petting Zoo gives you a chance to meet and interact with some awesome animals, new this year is The Great American Duck Races where kids from the audience will be picked to help hold the ducks and release them for the big race, and the Lumberjack Show which always needs audience participation!

The Evergreen State Fair is running August 22nd-September 2nd this year at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe.
