Back-To-School, Back To You

10 ways to make time for you!

By Melinda Larke - Cherry Valley Macaroni Kid Publisher August 30, 2018

Ahhhhh...breathe a sigh of relief, the kids are back in school! During the summer, lots of fun and memories happen but routines, including yours, go flying out the window.  Trying to keep the kids entertained, squeezing all your must dos into that small three month window, and visiting long lost friends and family can wreak havoc on your routine and making time for you.  Time to get back to all of that or if you are one that never made time for yourself, it is time to start.  A happy Mom makes a happy family!

  • Get Your Hair Done - I am sure the littles have gotten their back to school haircuts, have you?  There is something so relaxing about getting your hair done.  Sitting in a chair while someone else does the work, adult conversation, and you feel like a million bucks when you get done.  Just remember to make the appointment during school hours.
  • Take an Exercise Class - Sweat out that stress, kickbox your way to relaxation, stretch out all that tightness during a yoga class.  The Studio, LLC in Carnation and Bliss Yoga Studio in Monroe are both ready to welcome you!
  • Get a Massage - Can you think of anything more relaxing than a massage?  IGH Massage in Clearview is ready to restore you and restore your performance!
  • Join Other Moms -  Still have some infants and/or preschoolers at home?  No problem!  MOPS is here for you!  Mothers of Preschoolers is a worldwide organization that has several groups in our area.  It is open to all Mother's with children under the age of 5 years old.  Groups meet a few times a month and discuss the challenges and champions of motherhood. Best part...your kids are taken care of by someone else at the facility while you are in the meeting!  Cascade MOPS at Cascade Church in Monroe and Duvall MOPS which meets at Adventure Community Church in Duvall are just two of the many MOPS groups in our area.  To find a group near you, click here
  • Take an Art Class - I don't know about you but, focusing on something, trying to create pretty things, and a little quiet goes a long way to making me happy.  Northwest Art Center in Duvall, and Ben Franklin Crafts in Monroe both have adult classes.  There are also several shops in downtown Monroe that do art nights.  Look for our Time Out for Parents article at the beginning of each month for all the art events that you can participate in around you!
  • Go Shopping - There is nothing better than a little retail therapy!  Window shopping is so relaxing also!  The Just Between Friends Everett/Monroe Fall Sale is happening at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe September 12-15.   Check out this list of Mom businesses that are ready to help you with all your needs and wants!
