2019 Summer Camps at Carnation Farms

By Carnation Farms May 9, 2019

At Carnation Farms we empower kids to make better food choices for life-long good health through hands-on farm and cooking experiences.

Join us for three unique camp experiences in 2019: Farm Camp where kids become a farmer for a week, Farm to Table Food Camp where kids learn to create farm to table meals from the professional chefs at the farm, and Baking Camp, where kids learn farm to table baking.

Farm campers will spend most of their time on the education part of our farm, interacting with our Camp Counselors and Agricultural Education teams.

They will also have hands on afternoon cooking sessions with one of our professional chefs. They will use our outdoor kitchen space to learn how to use food that they harvest to make tasty and healthy treats.

At the Farm Camp kids will “work” in the garden by planting, harvesting, and digging in the dirt. They’ll learn what plants and animals need to grow, and what their bodies need, too. They also spend plenty of time interacting with our resident animals!

The camp instructors respect the campers’ ability to learn how to cook and find that teaching them serious kitchen skills results in a high level of engagement and develops skills that they can use for the rest of their lives.

One parent said about The Farm to Table Food Camp: “This was well organized, fun and got my daughter really excited about food and cooking.”

One quote from a parent about their daughter illustrates the skills and appreciation campers gain at these camps. “Erin was thrilled to show the family the 'proper' way to hold a knife. She's already helped slice and cut vegetables and herbs for dinner this week. She learned that she could prepare a large amount of food for a crowd! She said she made 40 pupusas flat breads for the Friday lunch.”

Campers will also spend a part of most afternoons in our educational garden with our Farm educators. During this period they will learn about sustainable food sources while harvesting some of the food to be used in the following day’s class.

“Our daughter LOVED this camp experience. Would definitely do it again!”

Kids love to learn how to bake at Carnation Farms. Baking campers will spend most of their time in one of our commercial kitchens learning from experienced chef educators. The campers will learn essential nutrition and baking skills while preparing meals that they eat.
